As a new father, I am deeply concerned about the declining quality of life in our country. As tax dollars are allocated, reallocated and misdirected, I fear an America whose citizens are uneducated and incapable of competing in the global economy. Our best shot at keeping our edge over the long run would be to pour our remaining resources into the development of our young citizens. Spending a dollar on education today can save us five times that much on welfare, health care or criminal rehabilitation down the road. As you work to balance the federal budget and set the priorities for America's future, please have the courage to take into consideration the hopeful hearts and hungry minds of every child in America.
